Denied: Feinberg must face Mississippi court

Jim Hood, Mississippi Attorney General, has finally prevailed over Ken Feinberg. It was back in February when Hood filed a subpoena against Ken and the GCCF, requesting to see the records of claimants who had given their permission for such a review, and it was a subpoena Feinberg at first ignored, then denied and fought, arguing its validity should be heard in court, but not in a Mississippi courtroom, it should … Continue reading Denied: Feinberg must face Mississippi court

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood fights on…

Jim Hood continues to do battle with Ken Feinberg, administrator of the GCCF claims fund. At issue right now is jurisdiction of a lawsuit filed by Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood against the GCCF, where the Attorney General is asking Ken to comply with a subpoena and allow Hood to look behind the GCCF’s magic curtain to find out how these claims are being processed. … Continue reading Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood fights on…

Yep, its still the fishers fault, part 17…

Wow, sure seems like Ken’s getting defensive down in the Gulf… Defending himself against accusations that interim claims are not being paid, or are not enough, Ken Feinberg said, “I just think people should move on already. I mean, this is not a lifelong operation…I have no objection to people taking the interim payments, but I do think that there should be a recognition that … Continue reading Yep, its still the fishers fault, part 17…

Feinberg still stalling Hood’s lawsuit…

For someone who claims his GCCF process has been “vindicated,” Ken Feinberg is really going through the legal maneuvers to make sure Jim Hood, Attorney General of Mississippi, can’t get a look behind his curtain. The lawsuit, originally filed in Hinds County Chancery Court, came when Mr. Hood asked Feinberg to turn over the records of BP oil spill related claims by workers and business … Continue reading Feinberg still stalling Hood’s lawsuit…

Feinberg’s five percent modification…

Feinberg just changed the rules again. On Tuesday, he added a rules modification to the GCCF claims process, designed to tighten payout criteria.  “It is clear, that as time passes, it becomes increasingly difficult to determine whether changes in revenue and earnings are due to the oil spill or other factors,” the notice said. Clear…how clear exactly? 5% clear. Those (both business and individual) who continue … Continue reading Feinberg’s five percent modification…

Feinberg stalls Hood’s lawsuit…

Last month, Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood filed a lawsuit against Ken Feinberg, stating he and the GCCF had not complied with a subpoena issued last February asking for full access to GCCF records so Hood’s office could put them under review. Among other things, Hood alleges that Feinberg has intentionally stalled payments to oil spill claimants in the hopes financial desperation will encourage settlements … Continue reading Feinberg stalls Hood’s lawsuit…

About that audit…Hood questions and Florida wants in…

On Wednesday, US Attorney General announced via letter that he and Ken Feinberg had agreed to an independent audit of the GCCF’s claims process, and whereas this audit was perceived to be a welcome idea, one whose time is long since due…there remained some concerns. Writing two days ago, I expressed a number of questions about how encompassing this audit might be, about the fairness … Continue reading About that audit…Hood questions and Florida wants in…

From the mouths of babes…where Feinberg throws another tantrum…

“The idea that there’s some sort of conspiracy to force people to take the Quick Payment is totally false… mounting a soap box and making that argument is no substitute for taking a close look at the statistics, reviewing the claims and seeing what is going on here.” So says Ken Feinberg in response to Mississippi Attorney General Hood’s district court filing where Hood requested … Continue reading From the mouths of babes…where Feinberg throws another tantrum…

And the Attorneys General continue the attack on Feinberg and the GCCF…

Where Barack Obama and the vast majority of Congress remain mute, the Attorneys General across the Gulf Coast continue to call it like they see it, and they see Feinberg and the GCCF putting the screws to the Gulf Coast, at the behest of British Petroleum who has been screwing them all along: Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood wrote, in his second legal brief on … Continue reading And the Attorneys General continue the attack on Feinberg and the GCCF…

Here come the Attorneys General…but where’s Obama?

The Attorney General of Alabama, Luther Strange wrote a letter to Ken Feinberg about his concerns with the GCCF and the payment of claims, highlighting many of the problems with the process that have been highlighted here and on several other websites. Among his concerns: 1. Of all the claims reportedly paid, 98.9 % are the quick pay claims, claims that require no processing and … Continue reading Here come the Attorneys General…but where’s Obama?

By putting ourselves below everyone, we're building in a defense mechanism. Protecting against real engagement. By imagining that no one wants us, that all others are so different from us, we're privileging our own point of view.

The people in power will not disappear voluntarily, giving flowers to the cops just isn't going to work. This thinking is fostered by the establishment; they like nothing better than love and nonviolence. The only way I like to see cops given flowers is in a flowerpot from a high window.

The surest way to work up a crusade in favor of some good cause is to promise people they will have the chance of maltreating someone. To be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behavior 'righteous indignation' - this is the height of psychological luxury, the most delicious of moral treats.
