Taking BP’s word for it…

Is it arrogance? What possesses people in charge of a corporation to dispel rumors of a newly leaking wellhead by simply saying the wellhead is no longer leaking without providing video proof? Especially when that company is responsible for unleashing the worst environmental disaster in this country. Especially when that company has been less than honest in the past…especially when financial self-interest was at stake. … Continue reading Taking BP’s word for it…

More from Dr. Feinberg…

Feinberg and those damned health claims… A month ago, I wrote about the Advocates for Environmental Human Rights Report that clearly showed how Feinberg and the GCCF have made it very difficult, if not impossible for Gulf Coast claimants to receive compensation for health claims, especially when compared to previous claims funds he’s administered. When it came to both the 9-11 fund and Agent Orange compensation, all a claimant needed … Continue reading More from Dr. Feinberg…

I’m back, so what’d I miss? Wait! What do you mean, a speeding ticket?

Yeah, been offline a few days. Well, a week to be exact and boy, has my re-entry into social work been a major headache. Got pulled over early this morning, while I was working…that adult crisis job I do which helps enable the police of my town to spend less time in emergency rooms dealing with mental health and AODA issues and more time on … Continue reading I’m back, so what’d I miss? 25% of $20 billion dollars is an F…for Feinberg

Ken Feinberg announced yesterday the oil spill fund has paid out $5 billion dollars to claimants to ensure the entire Gulf Coast region is made whole, and considering that British Petroleum put $7 billion dollars into an escrow account at the behest of Barack Obama and all things mea culpa, well kudos to you Ken! Damn good show! $5 out of $7 billion dollars spent … Continue reading 25% of $20 billion dollars is an F…for Feinberg

Guidepost Solutions, revisited…

So, back in February of this year, I started to receive e-mails from people about a certain investigative company called Guidepost Solutions. The long and short of it is claimants were assured back then their Quick Pay Claims were a no-questions asked plan. Claimants, if they had received an EAP from the GCCF could file the paperwork, sign away their rights to sue BP, and … Continue reading Guidepost Solutions, revisited…

The quotes that scare me…

From Rocky Kirstner’s blog at the NRDC: “David is not optimistic. He sees too many signs that things are not right with the shrimp catches so far. But what worries David even more is what he’s seeing—or not seeing—in the waters 20 miles offshore. He’s not seeing many small bait fish that snapper and mackerel–all predator fish–depend on. David says many fish bellies he sees are often empty, … Continue reading The quotes that scare me…

Feinberg’s five percent modification…

Feinberg just changed the rules again. On Tuesday, he added a rules modification to the GCCF claims process, designed to tighten payout criteria.  “It is clear, that as time passes, it becomes increasingly difficult to determine whether changes in revenue and earnings are due to the oil spill or other factors,” the notice said. Clear…how clear exactly? 5% clear. Those (both business and individual) who continue … Continue reading Feinberg’s five percent modification…

Feinberg stalls Hood’s lawsuit…

Last month, Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood filed a lawsuit against Ken Feinberg, stating he and the GCCF had not complied with a subpoena issued last February asking for full access to GCCF records so Hood’s office could put them under review. Among other things, Hood alleges that Feinberg has intentionally stalled payments to oil spill claimants in the hopes financial desperation will encourage settlements … Continue reading Feinberg stalls Hood’s lawsuit…

Ken says he already has enough oversight…again

David Pitofsky, Feinberg’s attorney, stated yesterday in a court filing it is their belief the GCCF already has adequate oversight so there is no need for the court to order any additional supervision, “The GCCF is already effectively supervised by the Coast Guard and several committees of Congress, and it has voluntarily agreed with the Department of Justice to an independent audit of the claims … Continue reading Ken says he already has enough oversight…again

One more try for the Gulf Coast, Barbier sets trial date…

After the Deepwater Horizon exploded 16 months ago, the people of the Gulf Coast were made a successive series of promises by the government, by British Petroleum and then by the administrator of the GCCF, Ken Feinberg. In their own ways, each entity promised to make the Gulf Coast whole again…first through clean-up, then through reparations and ultimately by claiming precautions and new guidelines would be … Continue reading One more try for the Gulf Coast, Barbier sets trial date…

The people in power will not disappear voluntarily, giving flowers to the cops just isn't going to work. This thinking is fostered by the establishment; they like nothing better than love and nonviolence. The only way I like to see cops given flowers is in a flowerpot from a high window.

William Burroughs

The surest way to work up a crusade in favor of some good cause is to promise people they will have the chance of maltreating someone. To be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behavior 'righteous indignation' - this is the height of psychological luxury, the most delicious of moral treats.
