Not my usual subject matter, but sometimes one can’t resist…

So, I keep reading these bits about Madonna, about her freaking out because some fan gave her hydrangeas, as in flowers, and it turns out she hates hydrangeas so she trashed the flowers in front of the fan, and not content to humiliate the person once, she then made a spoof video where she trashed the flowers again so the moment could live on in … Continue reading Not my usual subject matter, but sometimes one can’t resist…

9-11 Inc.

Ten years ago on September 11th, I was in a place not unlike many Americans, essentially surrounded by Europeans in a Las Vegas youth hostel trying desperately to sleep off a hangover…but that morning I heard people chattering, something about burning buildings, plane crashes and how it all looked like a movie, and through my bleary-eyed state, at first I thought they were describing a movie, until it became clear they were … Continue reading 9-11 Inc.

GOP job killers…

Tonight is Obama’s jobs speech. That’s nice and all, but not really important as evidenced by the reactions of Republican Senators like Mitch McConnell and Jim DeMint who have already figured out nothing Obama could propose will work. “Same failed approach,” McConnell called it. Interesting, considering for the past two years the GOP hasn’t said much about jobs at all… But that was then, this … Continue reading GOP job killers…

In case you missed it…reflections of a former Republican staffer

Required reading from Mike Lofgren at Truthout: Goodbye to All That: Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult “Barbara Stanwyck: “We’re both rotten!” Fred MacMurray: “Yeah – only you’re a little more rotten.” -“Double Indemnity” (1944) Those lines of dialogue from a classic film noir sum up the state of the two political parties in contemporary America. Both parties are rotten – how … Continue reading In case you missed it…reflections of a former Republican staffer

At this point, on this labor day…

…it would seem perfectly reasonable, if most any national-level politicians were to show up at any labor event, nationwide…the only appropriate response would range from politely asking them to leave to forcibly throwing them out… If Republican, they actively attempt to stamp out unions that built the middle class, and if Democrats, their expression of support only rises to a level of occasional, mutual self-interest. … Continue reading At this point, on this labor day…

In a nutshell – another reason Jim DeMint and the Tea Party are complete frauds…

“No, I know for a fact the Constitution expressly forbids global warming, therefore, anyone who speaks of it is committing treason…” Jim DeMint, Senator and self-described Tea Party Rock Star who never saw a constitution he actually wanted to read, recently had this to say about job creation: “DeMint argued, businesses want the government to oppose unions and eliminate regulations, which he said would create “certainty.” “What they want … Continue reading In a nutshell – another reason Jim DeMint and the Tea Party are complete frauds…

I figured out Obama’s re-election strategy, finally…

And it’s genius. He did so well the first time running against G.W. Bush and his harsh, conservative record, he has decided to do it again, by simply running against his own first term. This will of course only require he maintain his current course, because it would appear being “the only adult in the room” is akin to simply caving in and making decisions … Continue reading I figured out Obama’s re-election strategy, finally…

And still more about the (still not) leaking Macondo Well…

Ed. Note: Times Picayune now reporting investigators from both BP and the Coast Guard have gone out to the well site and found nothing. BP plans to send a ROV down to the seafloor tonight to determine if the well is leaking. Also, tests on the oil sheen spotted by Press-Register reporters has come back as a match to the oil that spilled last year. … Continue reading And still more about the (still not) leaking Macondo Well…
