GCCF Follies from the Times-Picayune…

Two interesting articles about the operations from the Gulf Coast Claims Facility in the Times Picayune yesterday, discussing some of the problems many of the fishermen have been having in their attempts to receive compensations from the fund, and some of Feinberg’s responses to these problems. Some highlights: On the plight of Elmer Rogers, a shrimper who has been waiting for compensation since August: “If … Continue reading GCCF Follies from the Times-Picayune…

Louisiana Attorney General, Buddy Caldwell, in conjunction with the Attorneys General’s of Mississippi, Florida and Alabama have warned that Feinberg’s third option may not be the best move for everybody. “Claimants considering making a quick final payment claim should also evaluate whether their total damages exceed the set amount offered…even if an unforeseen event such as a future hurricane causes more oil from the spill … Continue reading Gulf Coast Attorneys General Warn Against Feinberg’s Quick Settlement Option

BP, Feinberg and $4 Billion Dollars

As a result of the Federal lawsuit against British Petroleum for violations of the Clean Water Act and Oil Pollution Act, estimates are the resulting fine for British Petroleum could be between $5 and $20 billion dollars, depending primarily upon whether BP is found grossly negligent in the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon. Though these numbers have been written about for months, according to an … Continue reading BP, Feinberg and $4 Billion Dollars

In Denial – BP said “Yes,” GCCF told her “No.”

“The GCCF takes into account evidence of the connection between the asserted loss and the spill, the nature of the claimant’s job or business, and the extent to which the claimant’s job or business is dependent upon injured property or natural resources,” the letter stated. “In weighing these factors, the GCCF has determined that you did not demonstrate that you lost profits or income as … Continue reading In Denial – BP said “Yes,” GCCF told her “No.”

Next Stop on the Feinberg Exploitation Tour…quick payments, just in time for Christmas

For the 170,000 claimants who’ve already received an emergency payout and are deciding between a final payment or to continue applying for interim payments, Ken Feinberg, arbitrator of the $20 billion dollar BP oil spill fund, has come up with his newest option: the quick payment. This would provide $5000 dollars to individuals and $25,000 dollars to businesses within two weeks, no further documentation needed … Continue reading Next Stop on the Feinberg Exploitation Tour…quick payments, just in time for Christmas

Feinberg fights back in the press…and blows it.

Kenneth Feinberg, the arbitrator of BP’s oil spill fund, has forwarded twelve names to the Justice Department for fraudulently attempting to get money from the claims fund as reported in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and Bloomberg. Not only this, his legal team is currently examining 2000 other claims they suspect to be fraudulent. Said Feinberg, “The fund is working closely with the … Continue reading Feinberg fights back in the press…and blows it.

Feinberg out smoking a cigarette while 100,000 claims denied in ten days

December 15th is looking to be a disappointingly memorable day for citizens of the Gulf Coast. This is the deadline when all emergency claims to BP’s $20 billion fund must be processed and since August 23rd when Kenneth Feinberg took over the fund from British Petroleum, he has denied 173,000 claims including 100,000 in the past seven days alone. Documentation, documentation…documentation.. “The number of denied … Continue reading Feinberg out smoking a cigarette while 100,000 claims denied in ten days

On Thursday morning, Ken Feinberg brought adjusters from his Gulf Coast Claims Facility in Washington DC down to Gulfport, Alabama to meet one on one with a group of business owners and discuss their claims in person. Ken Feinberg doing his best to make BP look better…

I’ve written a number of things about Ken Feinberg in the past, but one of the many things that continues to stick in my mind is in regards to the $20 billion dollar escrow account, and how Feinberg predicted that after all is said and done, he will pay out $6 billion dollars and the remaining $14 billion dollars will be given back to British … Continue reading Ken Feinberg doing his best to make BP look better…

The people in power will not disappear voluntarily, giving flowers to the cops just isn't going to work. This thinking is fostered by the establishment; they like nothing better than love and nonviolence. The only way I like to see cops given flowers is in a flowerpot from a high window.

The surest way to work up a crusade in favor of some good cause is to promise people they will have the chance of maltreating someone. To be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behavior 'righteous indignation' - this is the height of psychological luxury, the most delicious of moral treats.
