The Static Kill Complete? BP to begin pumping cement into the well.

Thad Allen “granted” permission Wednesday evening for BP to begin cementing the Macondo well now that the static kill is complete. According to BP, the oil has been suppressed and the pressure inside the well is in a “static” condition. Several valves that were in use to regulate the pressure inside the blow out preventer have now been turned off, no longer necessary. Allen stated … Continue reading The Static Kill Complete? The Crime of the Century: What BP and the US Government Don’t Want You to Know, Part 1.

The article by Jerry Cop and Charles Hambleton begins: “The unprecedented disaster caused by the BP oil spill at the Deepwater Horizon Mississippi Canyon 252 site continues to expand even as National Incident Commander Thad Allen and BP assert that the situation is improving, the blown-out source capped and holding steady, the situation well in hand and cleanup operations are being scaled back. The New … Continue reading The Crime of the Century: What BP and the US Government Don’t Want You to Know, Part 1.

Update on the Static Kill…what’s the issue with the relief wells? ie…Who’s in Charge?

From the Times-Picayune: BP embarked Tuesday on an operation that could seal the biggest offshore oil leak in U.S. history once and for all, forcing mud down the throat of its blown-out well in a tactic known variously as “bullheading” or a “static kill.” The pressure in the well dropped quickly in the first 90 minutes of the procedure, a sign that everything was going … Continue reading Update on the Static Kill…what’s the issue with the relief wells? ie…Who’s in Charge?

We Got a Flow Rate…5,000,000 Barrels…We’re #1!

So a federal scientific panel now has an accurate estimate of the amount of oil British Petroleum has unleashed into the Gulf of Mexico…After months of competing estimates, typically pitting independent scientists against British Petroleum and the Coast Guard, the number is 5,000,000 barrels of oil. 5,000,000, at a recent flow rate of 53,000 barrels per day before the well was capped and an estimate … Continue reading We Got a Flow Rate…5,000,000 Barrels…We’re #1!

A Few Notes on the Static Kill…some benefits, a few risks, a series of half-truths

According to the Washington Post, the static kill could begin as early as Monday night, part of a two pronged plan to seal the Macondo well for good. The idea is to pump mud into the capped well, very slowly and push the oil all the way back down to its source rock, 2.5 miles below the seafloor. However, “the static kill is not the … Continue reading A Few Notes on the Static Kill…some benefits, a few risks, a series of half-truths

American Zombie Visits the Spill…Anatomy of an Oil Spill, Part I

Now that the well is reportedly capped…reportedly…it would seem a collective sigh of relief is in order.  That is if you don’t stop to think about the damage already done.  In the past few days, I had the grand opportunity to survey some of that damage. I have had the good fortune of being able to fly out over the BP/Macondo site, and over other … Continue reading American Zombie Visits the Spill…Anatomy of an Oil Spill, Part I

Raccoon Island BP Oil Pelican Die-off – the photos

It seems that as everyone is focused on Tropical Storm Bonnie and her impacts on the cap over the Macondo Well, forgotten is what the oil already spilled is doing to the wildlife of the Gulf Region. The largest Brown Pelican rookery exists on Raccoon Island and the oil has come ashore. British Petroleum is trying to keep photographers away from this island, to keep … Continue reading Raccoon Island BP Oil Pelican Die-off – the photos

Rigs, ships moving away from Gulf Oil Spill Site as tropical Storm Bonnie Approaches…well cap stays on?

Following Federal orders on Thursday night, crews began disconnecting the rigs drilling the relief wells in anticipation of Tropical Storm Bonnie’s arrival. This will delay the effort to plug the Macondo well by up to two weeks. BP and government officials also said Thursday that the cap now sealing the well and preventing oil from flowing into the sea will remain in place during a … Continue reading Rigs, ships moving away from Gulf Oil Spill Site as tropical Storm Bonnie Approaches…well cap stays on?

PSI…BP and the Feds Grading the Pressure Readings On the Curve…Yeah! Everybody Passes!

Last night I threw out a message, observing how it seemed every time we turned around either someone from British Petroleum or the Feds were changing the rules on this well cap. When all this began last week, when BP put the new containment riser onto the Macondo well and stopped the flow of oil from entering the gulf we were all told that the … Continue reading PSI…BP and the Feds Grading the Pressure Readings On the Curve…Yeah!
