BP Still Unsure What Pressure Readings Mean

British Petroleum is in the middle of a 48 hour window where the pressure readings on the new well-cap are being monitored round the clock. Still under 7000 PSI, two very divergent views on what could be happening below that cap are floating to the surface: Perspective 1: Roger N. Anderson, a professor of marine biology and geophysics at Columbia University, said the oil pressure … Continue reading BP Still Unsure What Pressure Readings Mean

Congress Still Screwing New Orleans…Robbing Katrina to Pay for BP

The House of Representatives passed a Supplemental Appropriations Bill earlier this month that would remove $400 million from Post-Katrina Recovery Programs like Road Home in order to fund other projects, including $304 million for Deepwater Horizon-related remediation and investigation. In addition the bill does provide 1.5 billion to FEMA which could theoretically pay for projects in the New Orleans area, but it could also pay … Continue reading Congress Still Screwing New Orleans…Robbing Katrina to Pay for BP

BP, when you live by the lie, you die by the lie…

So British Petroleum stopped the oil flow from the well… “It’s a (expletive) lie,” shouted Stephon LaFrance, one of several oil-stained oyster harvesters standing around Delta Marina in marshy Plaquemines Parish. “I don’t believe they stopped that leak. BP’s trying to make their self look good.” “It doesn’t mean anything,” Craig St. Amant said as he tried to sell tours to passers-by on Bourbon Street … Continue reading BP, when you live by the lie, you die by the lie…

Update: Oil Well is Closed, Integrity Test Begins

From the Times -Picayune: There was no oil flowing into the Gulf of Mexico this afternoon after BP crews managed to shut in the leaking Macondo well. The company is now conducting a “well integrity test” to determine if the well can remain closed until it can be permanently shut with cement next month. The test will last anywhere from 6 to 48 hours, during which time scientists … Continue reading Update: Oil Well is Closed, Integrity Test Begins

The New Well Cap, What Could Go Wrong? Apparently, Everything…

Ed Note: Latest news this morning as of 6:30am, the cap has been shut down again due to what BP claims on their website is a leaking choke valve. They plan to repair it and begin the stress tests again…oh, goody.  Ed Note 2: At 1:45 pm, Thursday, BP stated they have fixed the leak and have begun the integrity test of the well, … Continue reading The New Well Cap, What Could Go Wrong? BP: A history of disaster, a culture of empty words

A great article in the New York Times explores BP’s track record of disaster, safety violations, and maximum profits at high risk, all the while claiming safety is their number one priority. Much like the talking head politicians on Sunday morning talk-shows, or television and radio programs by your Glenn Becks, Rush Limbaugh’s and Sean Hannity’s, Tony Hayward seems to believe that just because you … Continue reading BP: A history of disaster, a culture of empty words

With friends like these…Anadarko refuses BP’s bill for cleanup costs

The rats, the rats, the rats are deserting BP like they desert the Mississippi River at dusk, heading into the French Quarter… British Petroleum has given bills to the two other companies who own part of the Deepwater Horizon oil well: Mitsui received a bill for 111 million dollars and has until Monday to pay up, but so far have remained mute. Anadrarko Petroleum Corp, … Continue reading With friends like these…Anadarko refuses BP’s bill for cleanup costs

Johnnie Burton, GW’s MMS Director Doesn’t Understand What The Fuss Is About

Johnnie Burton emerges: She was the Mineral and Management Services Director for GW from 2000-2007 and she doesn’t seem to understand what all the hub-bub is about over at the MMS these days. “When I was there, it seemed to work so well,” she says. True, when you give the oil companies whatever they want, and deplete the means of your own agency to enforce … Continue reading Johnnie Burton, GW’s MMS Director Doesn’t Understand What The Fuss Is About

Recovery Effort Falls Vastly Short of BP Estimates…Shhh, bp is lying…didn’t hear it from me

The tired refrain continues: British Petroleum is full of shit. It has been 78 days now since the Deepwater Horizon BP catastraphuk occurred and the lies keep coming, thick and sticky and suffocating. Face it…we’re all Brown Pelicans and this is BP’s show. Before the well exploded and, let us not forget, killed 11 people, BP said in the case of a spill, they could … Continue reading Recovery Effort Falls Vastly Short of BP Estimates…Shhh, bp is lying…didn’t hear it from me
