A day late and a dollar short…

How Louisiana and California are linked, in mediocrity...

I know I said I’d be back on Monday, so I’m late, my bad… been doing some thinking this week about the website, reading the news, hanging out, taking a break…etc…and the one thing I can’t seem to get out of my head is this…

The number of people from Transocean, Halliburton and British Petroleum who have spent a day in jail as a result of the eleven people who died on the Deepwater Horizon is zero. Nobody either from the former MMS, nobody from any level of government who should have been watching developments on the rig, nobody.

The number of people from the financial industry who have spent a day in jail as a result of the 2008 recession and the ensuing financial destruction is zero. Nobody from Goldman Sachs, Citi, Wells Fargo, Wall Street, Lehman Brothers, the Lynch, etc…nor did any of the elected representatives who saw fit to decrease regulations or cut money from and/or turned the SEC into a revolving door agency for members from the same financial institutions previously mentioned…nobody went to jail, zero.

So who did go to jail?

Well, for starters…at last count, 3,362 Americans protesting the abuses of the banks, the financial industries and in no small indirect way the behavior of corporations like British Petroleum, their abuses, have gone to jail.

And I would argue this number is well on the low side…bad financial times leads indirectly or directly to desperate acts, both large and small, everything from petty crime to drunken driving, increased domestic violence to increased drug use…and on and on…how many people have wound up in jail who otherwise wouldn’t have as a result of the recession or the financial destruction that came with the oil spill?

Hard to say.

It would be understandable for an outside observer to suggest the rule of law in this country ends as soon as one reaches a certain plateau of wealth.

Just saying…

Ah, but what does any of this have to do with the site, and any upcoming changes? Well, the upcoming changes would be contained within the above paragraphs…

Understandably, I write about what is most on my mind, and my mind is mostly in a couple of places… Corporate malfeasance and their enablers, especially in regards to the oil spill and the corrupt financial industry, and all of their combined attacks on the American public…which is quite easily reflected in my affection for two cities…New Orleans, who suffered the breach of the levees and along with the rest of the Gulf Coast, the disaster of the oil spill, and San Francisco, where Bank of America began as one man with an outdoor table-top making small loans after the 1906 earthquake, and where the Koch brothers and their parasitical empire now creep from…

All of these aforementioned institutions and entities seem to be working their hardest to make each and every one of us at a dollar(s) short, to their own benefit….be they business or government.

So I guess one might say, the site will be officially expanding in its range of subject matter and upcoming, will be focused on two geographic locations…The Gulf Coast, specifically New Orleans and the Bay Area, specifically San Francisco.

Have a nice day.

Oh, and how ’bout them Saints? Next week…the Falcons…have  I mentioned how much I hate Atlanta?

Saints vs. St. Louis, Lou Brock, Mark McGwire and family…

You sons of bitches...

So, this week the New Orleans Saints go into St. Louis to play the “Rams.” Ha…sorry, still can’t get over the whole St. Louis Cardinals football team winding up in Arizona, and Los Angeles Rams winding up in St. Louis thing…it would seem to me, why not just have Arizona become the Rams and the Rams become the Cardinals so balance can again be restored to this horrible, wonderful world…

Okay, but that’s not really my point, so, sorry.

Oh, and the point is also not to tear down the Cardinals winning the World Series.

I don’t really care who wins the World Series anymore…and the reason why, okay, that is a larger part of the overall point…

You see, back when I was a wee lad, my family and I used to go on vacation every summer. Everyone loads into the fire engine red Chevy Vega and off we go, hitting the interstate to whatever relative we were going to spend a week with this year…we hit Tampa, we hit Hershey, Kansas City and oh yeah, we hit St. Louis. Went to Six Flags, went to the Arch, saw the Mississippi River and yes, we went to a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game at Busch Stadium, and it wasn’t just any game. This was late summer in August of 1977. Back then, I was a huge baseball fan, played in Little League, collected baseball cards and paid attention to all the milestones so I was well aware that  Lou Brock of the St. Louis Cardinals was closing in on Ty Cobb’s once considered untouchable career stolen bases record. As we got closer to the game I knew we’d be attending, I began paying attention to how many stolen bases Brock still needed, how many left he still had to go. I wondered, would we be at the game when he did it? Could the stars possibly line up in this way?

Um, no.

He broke the record the night after my family was at the game.

Disappointed!

You know, but I got over it. No worries…it took some time, but I moved on and right about the time I’d moved past all that, five years later, that same goddamned Cardinals team beat my hometown baseball team in the 1982 World Series.

Disappointed again!

But, okay…okay, I got over that too…the Cardinals, I stopped hoping for plane crashes, I stopped wishing death upon the entire team…no worries, moving on…and then let’s flash forward 15 years. This would be the year of the whole Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire home run chase. I was excited and interested. Even though I was no longer the biggest baseball fan (NHL…Hockey baby! Violence! Speed! Precsision! Blood! In love!) but I paid attention to the narratives and I was enjoying the competition. For my birthday that year, my parents asked me what I would like to do and I said, in lieu of any sort of gifts, let’s go see the Cardinals play, see if McGwire hits a home run. So we go to a game and every time he comes up to bat, the flash bulbs would start popping, everywhere across the sold out stadium. It was fascinating, thrilling and in McGwire’s 3rd at bat, he did it.

I got to see Mark McGwire hit a home run the season he hit 70 and first broke Roger Maris’s record.

Yep, sure did.

What do you mean, steroids?

Curse you Cardinals!!!!!!!

And that brings us to this weeks Saints game. I know the Saints are playing the “Rams,” but as I mentioned before, they are still the damned Cardinals to me and though it may be a different sport, it’s the same name and the same town and the Saints need to win for the city of New Orleans and just as important to me, they need to win to avenge my disappointment, my disillusionment and the tarnishing  of various family memories that damned city is responsible for ruining.

Who dat!

Go Saints!

Enjoy the game and have a nice day…

Chicago Blackhawks Deathwatch…Game 7

I hate the Red Wings

The Blackhawks lose in overtime…

The Blackhawks are out of the Stanley Cup playoffs…

An audible click is heard across the country, by everyone as the world suddenly shifts back into balance and all the wrongs of the past year, they are suddenly righted…

Now, we can finally get back to the more pressing matters of the day, namely…the ousting of the Detroit Red Wings.

After all, Detroit really sucks.

Have a nice day.

Chicago Blackhawks Deathwatch…Game 6

Game 6 tonight and the Blackhawks won it in overtime, beating the Vancouver Canucks to tie their series 3-3. Even I, at this point, have to look upon the effort of the entire Chicago team with an air of respect and…no, no I don’t. This is a travesty, a tragedy, this is the biggest emotional setup of all time! Vancouver goes up three games to nothing, and they don’t even bother leaving their hotel for game four and five. Sure, they show up for game six but they manage to lose, again!

I am seriously, unhappy about this. And yes, the Blackhawks still suck.

But Chris Paul looked pretty good, and I don’t even like basketball…uh, go Hornets?!

Game 7 is Tuesday night…and I’m really dreading looking forward to it.

Have a nice day.

Chicago Blackhawks Deathwatch…Game 5

Yes, still...

Okay, will the real Vancouver Canucks please come back. Hello? We who hate the Blackhawks miss you! Remember those first three games, how unstoppable you were… Hey! WTF happened? Are you just trying to assist in building some false sense of security?

Well hell, stop it already!

Chicago wins again, beating Vancouver 5 to nothing, in Vancouver…

I’m trying not to panic, but if Chicago wins game 6, swear to god I’m going to have to call an adult crisis worker, and that means I’m going to have to call myself…and I hate it when that happens…the conversations look so odd and they wreck my crdibility at the office.

Game 6 in Chicago, Sunday night…

Have a nice day…and the Blackhawks?

They still suck.

Chicago Blackhawks Deathwatch…Game 4

This is Patrick Marleau. Patrick would kick Feinberg's ass with one hand, in 2.3 seconds, while eating a sandwich and sending a text message to the Blackhawks, you know, to remind them how much they suck...

It might seem strange for a picture of a San Jose Sharks player on the Blackhawks deathwatch, but when Chicago wins 7-2 over a Vancouver team that appears to have forgotten to leave their hotel while San Jose goes down by four goals, only to score five goals of their own in the second period, and then go on to win it in overtime  by a score of 6 to 5, well hell, what do you expect? The last time a team came back from four goals down in the playoffs was 26 years ago…

Go Sharks!

Vancouver plays Chicago, game five on Friday night in Vancouver, and that should be all, folks…

Have a nice day.

Chicago Blackhawks Deathwatch…Game 3

One more and they're done...

Sad…sad…sad… The Blackhawks lose again…and in Chicago this time. Though their big four finally stepped up and started to actually shoot the damned puck…didn’t matter. Vancouver is up three games to nothing…

Course, we won’t talk about the Sharks game Saturday night except to say…&$#&@&@^&%@#%^%%^@^%$@#$%@#…Really?

Have a nice day…

Chicago Blackhawks Deathwatch…Game 2

Damn right...

So, in the past two Stanley Cup playoffs, the Blackhawks have knocked out the Vancouver Canucks, but it would appear things aren’t working out so well in 2011. After dropping the first game to Vancouver on Wednesday night, last night was game 2…and Chicago lost again.

I should mention, I am not a Canucks fan, never have been, never will be, but like with so many sports, especially in the playoffs, one is often forced to root for the team one dislikes as they play against the team one hates.

Vancouver leads the series, 2 games to 0, and its looking pretty good so far…screw the Blackhawks.

Sunday night’s in Chicago…game 3.

Sorry everybody, but it is that time again…Chicago Blackhawks Deathwatch…Game 1.

Down a game...three to go

For those of you who don’t check out this site too often, and are not fans of the NHL, it should be known that you will all have to bear with me for the next two months as the Stanley Cup Playoffs have begun, and the only thing I like more than the New Orleans Saints is NHL hockey…and one of my favorite things to do during the chase for Lord Stanley’s Cup is to root on the San Jose Sharks and to hate on the Chicago Blackhawks…

Hey, we all have our hobbies…

So, last years playoffs were really bad for me. Not only did the Blackhawks beat the Sharks, but they actually won the whole damn thing. Kind of kept the universe in balance so to speak considering the Saints won the Super Bowl…but it was still, very bitter.

So tonight, we pause to laugh as the Vancouver Canucks beat the Blackhawks two-to-nothing in game one, of round one…so, so very good.

The Canucks lead the series 1-0.

Game two is Friday night.

Have a nice day.
